“70 percent of the “normal” decay associated with aging–the weakness, the sore joints, the lousy balance, the feeling crappy–70 percent of that horror can be forestalled almost until the end.” says Chris Crowley in his book Younger Next Year. After hearing stats like this the Think Up team wanted to take action.
Thanks to innovative technology and research in the medical field (that will only continue to expand at a rapid pace) most likely we’ll all live longer. And we have no choice but to grow older and older each day. So, here’s the question – are you going to live a long healthy life or allow weakness, lousiness and that “crappy” feeling to creep in sooner and quicker?
Here at Think Up we decided to start an all-out war against decay, the kind of decay that Chris Crowley talks about in his book. And because we work in the business world, we had to resort to acronyms. Therefore, the war we have declared on decay is called the No DK Challenge. That’s right; we are taking DK head on and having a little fun competition along the way.
It’s not your typical “biggest loser” challenge. There’s more to it than just losing the greatest percentage of weight. We are looking at our wellness holistically. So, here’s how it works. We have assigned points to things like the following – 3 pts. for 1 hour or more of cardio, 1 pt. for eating at least 4 servings of vegetables, 2 pts. for getting at least 7 hours of sleep, 2 pts. for drinking 6-8 glasses of water, 1 pt. for wearing sunscreen when outside, 3 pts. for bringing in a healthy snack to share with the team. You can even get points for flossing your teeth and volunteering your time. Also, of course, you will get some points at the end of the challenge for every pound you lose (or gain, depending on your personal fitness goals).
Goals? Of course, we’ve set goals for ourselves. After all we are in a business where measurement is key to any successful program. Our team has 90 days to accumulate 25,000 “No DK” points. We’ll also celebrate weekly winners and an overall individual winner.
25,000 points away from living longer healthier lives. On your marks, get set, go!
